The day starts bright Full of sunlight But the night’s dark Ain’t yet gone Like a film covering my eyes Making everything I see A negative There’s lots of detail Behind the shine With the blink of my eyes I only keep The negatives in my mind Processing them in the darkroom Spilling my own blood For the fucking infrared Every now and then Thinking about The known and the dead Always wondering “Why is it always so dark and RED?” And when I came out, I breathe The light is what I see, clean I shared these images endlessly “Well, you know, I’m just trying to be me” The ones you called creepy Now are the opposite Just like back then When I said RED You’d see blood But I meant a heart Now you get to see the part Where all you want now Is my heart But it’s full of negatives Those dark and creepy things You never liked Which only when processed Made you feel fine I see it now, the one in you And this time There won’t be any shade of RED Just the negatives, unprocessed.
Wow! This was amazing, AB. The metaphors are incredible and such a fabulous flow.Love it. 💕
“Like a film covering my eyes
Making everything I see
A negative”
‘When I said RED
You’d see blood
But I meant a heart’
That was awesome! And this- ‘There’s lots of detail behind the shine.’
That is so true and it’s nerve-wracking when we only seem to notice them. Love the piece and the powerful ending, AB!
A lovely poem!

Darkness was never the escape, it was ever-present, just running parallelly.
